Heart-ich Hyderabadi

Heart-ich Hyderabad is Orijit Sen’s long-term love letter to the city that made him an artist. Spanning over seven years and showcased at Kalakriti Art Gallery, the series captures the layered essence of Hyderabad—from the vibrant chaos of Laad Bazaar to the architectural fusion at Shah Ali Banda and the iconic Charminar. Sen’s intricate, map-like canvases blend memory, history, and lived experience, portraying the city’s diverse communities and daily rhythms. Influenced by his formative years in Hyderabad during the 1970s, Sen delves into questions of identity and belonging, reflecting on what it means to be a Hyderabadi. The exhibition’s title, drawn from the local Dakhni dialect, underscores this personal connection, with “ich” signifying closeness. Through his art, Sen invites viewers to explore Hyderabad’s unique tapestry, where tradition and modernity coexist, and where every street corner tells a story.
